CONFIRMED: The Niantic Company sells its gaming division with Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now to Scopely for $3.5 billion.
A few days ago, the indicators soared when news of Niantic’s intention to sell its gaming division to Scopely, a studio owned by the Saudi-based Savvy Games Group, was leaked. The move is now official: Niantic has announced that it is selling Pokémon GO to Scopely and that they will be in charge of its future development.
This studio, famous for creating the popular phenomenon Stumble Guys and the equally successful Monopoly GO, will now integrate not only the world’s most-played Pokémon mobile game, but also Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now. The transition will be seamless, and Niantic assures that they will continue to release updates and support the team throughout the acquisition. But the goal is for Scopely to provide the resources and support to keep it running.
A deal believed to be worth around $3.5 billion saw the teams behind these games transferred under Niantic’s control. Now, they’ll be part of Scopely, with the promise that their “games, apps, and events will remain true to the experience” players already know.
We can only hope to see what the wonderful Pokemon GO game will bring us under its new management.
