Amazon makes an offer to buy TikTok

The American technology giant Amazon has submitted an offer to acquire the entire Chinese social media platform TikTok, according to The New York Times.
The April 5 deadline is for the social media platform to choose between separating from its Chinese owner or face a ban in the United States.
The newspaper, which has had access to three people familiar with the proposal, says the offer was presented in a letter addressed to US Vice President J.D. Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
However, the White House does not appear to be taking Amazon’s offer seriously, according to sources accessed by the outlet.
Other technology companies interested in acquiring the popular app include Microsoft, Blackstone, and Oracle, according to specialized press reports.
One of Republican Donald Trump’s campaign promises was to save the app in his country despite national security concerns, which is why, upon taking office, he delayed its shutdown in the United States until next Saturday.
Trump is scheduled to meet with senior White House officials on Wednesday to discuss the future of TikTok, which has 170 million users in the United States.
