Europe threatens TikTok with a historic fine: its advertising violates the new digital law

TikTok is one of the most used social networks in Spain, especially among young people. Millions of users access its viral videos daily, and some try to make money, but few know that the platform has a public ad library, accessible from any browser and without the need for an account.

In theory, this repository allows users to see which brands are advertising, what content is being promoted, and which user profiles are being targeted. In practice, however, what TikTok offers may fall far short of the requirements imposed by the Digital Services Act (DSA), according to the European Commission.

Stern warning to TikTok: The European Commission opens the door to harsh sanctions for the use of digital advertising
The European Commission has issued a serious warning to TikTok, Reuters reports. Brussels shared its first preliminary findings on Thursday following the investigation opened in February 2024, and the initial verdict is worrying: the platform is failing to provide the information required by the Digital Services Act (DSA) about the ads it distributes.
