A type of malware has been detected on YouTube that hides in anime and video game videos; it seeks to take control of your computer.

A new phishing campaign leverages anime and video games to spread malware through YouTube, using fake or stolen accounts to distribute the DCRat Trojan through video download links, pretending to be cheats or tricks for games, in order to gain remote control of their devices.

A team of researchers from cybersecurity firm Kaspersky identified this new phishing campaign with content posted on Google’s video platform, YouTube, dating back to early 2025. The campaign, with themes related to anime and video games, primarily targets Windows computer users interested in such content.
